Project Overview
SME Group successfully supplied a 60,000 TPA Continuous Color Coating Line for an African customer, designed to manufacture high-quality pre-painted steel coils (PPGI/PPGL) for the construction industry. The project adopts a two-coat, two-bake continuous coating process, ensuring excellent surface quality, coating adhesion, and long-term corrosion resistance.
The production line was engineered with a focus on stable operation, energy efficiency, environmental protection, and easy maintenance, providing the customer with a reliable solution for local market demand.

Process Flow
The production line is divided into three major sections:
Entry Section
- Dual uncoiling system for continuous production
- Coil end-to-end stitching
- Burr removal and strip tension control
Process Section
- Alkaline cleaning and hot water rinsing
- Chemical pretreatment (passivation)
- Primer coating
- Finish coating with rapid color change capability
- Hot-air circulation curing ovens with multi-zone temperature control
- Water cooling and air drying
- Exhaust gas treatment and heat recovery system for improved energy efficiency
Exit Section
- Surface quality inspection
- Defective strip cutting and slitting
- Coil recoiling and unloading for packaging and storage
Integrated Solution
This project is not a standalone color coating line, but part of an integrated flat steel processing system built for the same customer, including pickling, cold rolling, galvanizing, and continuous color coating lines operating in parallel.
The four lines are designed with a continuous material flow:
- Pickling → prepares strip for cold rolling
- Cold Rolling → produces required thickness and surface quality
- Galvanizing → provides GI/GL substrate
- Color Coating → produces high-value pre-painted steel coils
This configuration ensures a complete upstream-to-downstream production chain, improving process continuity, material utilization, and overall production coordination. It also enables the customer to build a fully integrated flat steel processing base with higher value-added output capability.
