Today, the world’s first demonstration project of direct reduction hydrogen metallurgy with zero reforming of coke oven gas, the first phase of hydrogen metallurgy demonstration project of HISCO Group with 1.2 million tons, marked the transformation of China’s steel industry from traditional “carbon metallurgy” to new “hydrogen metallurgy”. This marks the transformation of China’s steel industry from traditional “carbon metallurgy” to “hydrogen metallurgy”.
The Hydrogen metallurgy is a technology that uses hydrogen to partially or completely replace carbon as the reductant and process fuel for iron ore to realize the process of deoxidation of iron ore; Compared with the traditional metallurgical process of “blast furnace + converter” and “carbon metallurgy”, the energy consumption per ton of steel of the demonstration project is reduced by more than 23%, and the hydrogen metallurgy is an important technology for steel production to achieve zero carbon emission.
Yang Yongqiang, hydrogen metallurgy expert of HISCO said: We capture and reuse the carbon dioxide generated in the process, and can capture about 125 kilograms of carbon dioxide per ton of direct reduced iron produced.
China is currently the world’s largest producer of hydrogen, with an annual production of 33 million tons of hydrogen.
