20+ Scrap Types for Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) Steelmaking

Scrap for Electric Furnce Steelmaking

Scrap for Electric Furnce Steelmaking

For electric furnace steelmaking process,  there are  20 kinds of scrap able to be used.

  1. Carbon scrap: All kinds of carbon scrap shall not be mixed with alloy scrap, plate thickness above 2mm, wire diameter above 4mm, single weight above 0.25kg including edge scrap, cast steel parts, scrap machine parts, steel agricultural tools, etc.,
  2. Alloy scrap: The same specifications as carbon scrap, including a variety of alloy steel scrap machinery parts and alloy steel castings, etc. Alloy steel should be separated by different steel grades, not mixed with carbon scrap.
  3. Light and thin material: The thickness of thin plate scrap below 2mm like silicon steel sheet. iron barrels. packaging iron. automobile cabs and scrap iron wire and wire rope, etc.   Light thin material shall be baled and briquetted exclusively for electric furnace.
  4. Steel scrap: Do not mix with iron chips without impurities, oxidation block and non-ferrous metals, long and short chips are separated, and carbon steel chips are separated from alloy steel chips.
  5. Scrap gray iron castings, machine tool bed, low pressure valves, ingot mold, sand box and heating piece, etc.,
  6. Scrap white iron: Iron pot, ploughshare and other scrap white iron castings.
  7. Recycled iron:  There is high sulfur iron and pig iron in the form of lumps, including iron slag, etc.
  8. Fire-fired iron: The cast iron parts are burnt long time, so its surface is oxidation and deterioration such as furnace bars, melting pot, etc.
  9. Forgeable iron: Various pipe fittings, wrenches, rear bridge of automobile and forgeable castings of machinery, etc.
  10. Pig iron scraps: Used pig iron scraps shall not have steel chips and ferrous metals and other impurities, without oxidized lumps.
  11. Iron oxide: The iron scales are from rolling steel and steelmaking process the steel mill, with iron content of 60% or more, without impurities. No lumps. No non-ferrous metals.
  12. Iron sludge: The furnace dust blown out from the oxygen converter and the grinding plant, with iron content of about 55%.
  13. Steel slag: Steel content is required to be above 60%, regardless of size.
  14. First grade briquettes: Density is more than 1.5t/m3.
  15. Secondary briquettes: Density more than 1t/m3.
  16. First grade pig iron briquette: Density more than 3t/m3.
  17. Secondary pig iron briquette: Density greater than 2t/m3.
  18. First grade hot briquettes: Density is greater than 2t/m3. Oxidation overburning of briquettes does not exceed 5%.
  19. Second grade hot briquettes: Density greater than 1.5t/m3. Oxidation overburning of briquettes not more than 1%-15%.
  20. Light material: Light material shall be tightly bundled. The size of the bundle can be convenient to fill into the furnace.
