China’s steel industry should accelerate its transition toward green development and intelligent manufacturing, while also curbing capacity expansion, increasing industry concentration, and securing raw material supplies, according to Shen Bin, President of the China Iron and Steel Association. He made these remarks at a seminar held on Monday to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China.
The seminar was initiated by the association and organized by China Metallurgical News, a publication focused on the metallurgy industry. Held in Beijing, the event attracted industry experts, retired officials, and company representatives from across the country.
According to Xu Kuangdi, an academician at the Chinese Academy of Engineering, growing environmental protection requirements have placed significant pressure on the steel industry, which remains one of the nation’s primary sources of carbon emissions. To meet carbon reduction goals, the industry must improve its structure by actively developing short-process steelmaking capacity.
